WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN AUDIT AND AN INSPECTION?
An audit is generally only done once in the life of a playground after it is initially installed to verify compliance with CPSC and ASTM playground safety guidelines and identify serious and potentially life-threatening situations. Inspections are to check for hazards and test the performance of the entire play area and evaluate the structural integrity of each piece of play equipment and its surfacing.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE GET AN INSPECTION?
Performing routine safety audits and inspections of the parks and playgrounds in your community, schools, and other facilities is vital to ensure that they stay safe. The frequency of inspections is based on the environment, the age of the park, and how often the park is used.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE INSPECTION?
After an audit or inspection is complete, the CPSI will inform the owner of any issues they find with the playground. Depending on the issue a few things can happen. If the issue is deemed life-threatening or could cause serious harm to the park user. The park or section of the park may be shut down or fenced off until the issue is addressed and deemed usable. If minor issues are found the CPSI will inform the park owner and discuss ways to fix the issues and improve the park.
